Digital Rights Management (DRM): It's intended to protect ebooks from illegal use by tying ebooks to the account that purchases them. With DRM, users can only use the ebooks on a certain devices (i.e., Amazon's Kindle) or in certain apps (i.e., Adobe Digital Editions). This definition is adapted from ebooksarchitects.com. Most of our ebook providers listed here are DRM free. For DRM free ebooks, you have unlimited access to the ebooks, can download and/or make a copy of them.

To download books for offline access, you will firstly need Adobe Digital Editions a free program that is different than Adobe Reader. If using a mobile device, the Adobe Digital Editions App is free from the Apple App Store and Google Play. You can use other reader apps as long as they are able to handle the Adobe DRM (Digital Rights Management). Search in the app store of your choice for e.g. 'adobe drm reader' or just 'adobe drm' to get a list of potentially suitable apps.

You do need an Adobe ID simply to read a downloaded book on one device. You can get an Adobe ID for free if you wish to transfer your downloaded eBook from one device to another. You will not need an Adobe ID if you continue to read it on the same device. Select the number of days you wish to download the book for. If you're using a computer, you will download an asm. file into your downloads folder. Use Adobe Digital Editions to open that file. You should now be able to read the book offline on the Adobe Digital Editions Reader.

The qualitative material in this report, including the extended quotes from individuals regarding e-books and library use, comes from two sets of online interviews that were conducted in May 2012. The first group of interviews was of library patrons who have borrowed an e-book from the library. Some 6,573 people answered at least some of the questions on the patron canvassing, and 4,396 completed the questionnaire. The second group of interviews was of librarians themselves. Some 2,256 library staff members answered at least some of the questions on the canvassing of librarians, and 1,180 completed the questionnaire. Both sets of online interviews were opt-in canvassings meant to draw out comments from patrons and librarians, and they are not representative of the general population or even library users. As a result, no statistics or specific data points from either online questionnaire are cited in this report.

Since Looker Studio supports dynamic reporting, you can also add controls to your report to give your report users more freedom to slice and dice data by selecting a date range, device type, segment etc.

Looker Studio (formerly known as Google Data Studio) is a completely free data visualization tool which allows you to build great dashboards and reports. It is a cloud-based tool which means you can access it from any device/browser as long as you have access to a stable internet connection.

Looker Studio can greatly speed up your data analysis. It allows you to quickly make sense of data and determine patterns and anomalies which otherwise can be extremely hard to detect in a timely manner. Data visualization helps in data interpretation and data retention. It helps to tell meaningful, emotional and engaging stories to key decision-makers.

Reading a book online is easy, but downloading a book depends on what device you want to read it on. Apple users can install Apple Books (also known as iBooks) on their iPad, iPod Touch ($266 at Amazon) or iPhone ($706 at Amazon). Android users can check out Google Play Books. On both these apps, you can find cheap and free e-books.

Project Gutenberg has more than 58,000 free eBooks. Choose a novel to read online or download on your phone or PC. The book will save as an ePub, Kindle file or plain text in your Dropbox, Google Drive or One Drive. You can also choose to download the file with or without images to save space. If you don't want to download, just choose to read it in your browser in HTML.

Create a free account and plug in your book preferences and reading habits to get started on BookBub. This website is packed with books. Many are free to download, and some are on sale for prices as low as 99 cents. Browse curated genres, follower recommendations, lists or search "free."

The Goodreads app is a personal favorite of mine. It's a great site to organize your books, see what your favorite authors are reading and find new reads. If you're on the hunt for free e-books, Goodreads can help too.

The Goodreads community creates lists for almost any book need you could have. Finding free books isn't any different. You'll find curated lists of free e-books from indie and self-published authors, public domain classics, audiobooks from Librivox, books for kids, previews, samples and more.

A note for Windows users: it might also be necessary to install both Python and the PyCrypto precompiled binary in order to be able to decrypt some e-books. The easiest way to get Python for this purpose is to download and install Active Python from here, and then get the matching version of PyCrypto from here (either 2.7 or 3.3, for 32-bit or 64-bit Windows, whichever is appropriate). Thanks to forum user krimhorn for the suggestion!
